*SPOILERS UP TO APPROX. PAGE 100*I don't know if I will be able to finish this book. The premise itself is good since superheroes are and always will be cool but there are just too many problems with the set up and the characters. Here are some of them that I couldn't get past:1) Teresa, our leading ladyThere was no depth to her. She starts out as a nobody and as soon as her powers hit BAM! Her character does a complete turn around. For some reason she’s got it into her head that she’s “now the most powerful person” out of the group. Apparently making purple balls means you're a badass. Creating storms and panther mauling just won't cut it anymore and is no match for her... purple balls... :/Anyway, I didn't particularly like her at all which is a major reason why I won't be continuing.2) Gage, the love interestNo fireworks, no interesting interactions, no excitement when he was around. He was just... there. Being dull. At first I was looking forward to him being the leader because call me crazy but men in authority are hot. Unfortunately this was not to be as he was overthrown by... Teresa (here's a girl that could barely look after herself but now she's leader-material. Mind-boggling.) So okay, it's lucky no one of the group has an ego as big as Teresa has but Gage must have a cool, sexy power to make up for it, right? Wrong. It's ah, slightly heightened senses :/. It's not even unique since I'm sure Marco experiences it when he changes into a lion or whatever. No flying or invisibility or super speed then for poor Gage. The groupYou wouldn't know it but they're supposed to be around 25-30 years old. They seem like a bunch of teenagers in every way. However the real mystery is that all of them come back to the Base within a day or so, happy to be together with their powers back. They're just best friends again, no awkwardness after 15 years of separation. Er, none of them have lives? Commitments? Jobs, families, relationships? Not even a pet?? None of them just want to stay normal or hide? Why wouldn't some resent superpowers (even those themselves that have them)? The wars had a devastating impact on the US, it wiped out NY! I'm not sure people would be pleased at the Rangers forming again. People without powers would be frightened and wouldn't stand for it. Wouldn't hate-groups form? They don't even think of this, just announce themselves to governments and the world. There are just glaring holes in the world. How can the Base just get up and running again straight away? Uniforms, helicopter rides, doctors, equipment, apparently there’s no problems with organisation structure or money after 15 years of nothing. I can believe in superheroes but I just can't ignore overlooking general logistics and human nature. And for that reason, I'm out. What a Dragon's Den moment.
